Just Down a Turn in the Road – Collaboration

Just a turn down, just a wandering look, when my life seemed to say I’m missing someone
when I walked along, when she turned and said come take my hand, if only for today
when we loved until, when the clocks ran still time slows down, fills in the empty space with you
just a turn down the road, just a little bit while we made love while she said I can see every day forward with you in it
……………………………………….
How the cities towered and shadowed my thoughts too busy for someone like me
while I loved her in a country way, just down the road a simple, pure love, longing denied
where the waters crossed, where I ran along down her skin until, we met and then our waves crashed together, mixing, joining as one
……………………………………….
It seemed as if those nights, those endless highways sensual twists and turns like fingertips trailing across my curves
when we drove each other, just another stop lips turned up in an inward smile, a sideways glance
another wait, under the streetlight seeing her face, how those lips looked, how she felt me knowing without doubt we are us
……………………………………….
In another thought remembering someone else from long ago
a walk down her melancholy road how he had held me tightly once but now, but now…
where we stopped to smoke, as the birds flew, as I turned to her, taking her close, so close until his cologne faded and became yours
and we met again, down that country lane memory greying at the edges
……………………………………….
With my city intent, with her country love I laughed when you kept your shoes on, my toes squelching in the mud
while the skies glowed, where the stars chased us a most beautiful sunset that dimmed compared to your eyes
and I took a turn down her lonely road somehow I wasn’t so alone with you
just somewhere along, while we loved the night through as you held my body close, arms pleasantly loose yet secure
……………………………………….
Just a turn, a random chain of events and yet perhaps not so
where the waters flowed and we walked along dipping my feet in quickly before skipping back in delight, he caught my hand in his
where I told her, how I never could my heart skittered to a halt, rested in my throat as he confessed…
where the love ran, along the tears from her eyes and I longed to run away in fear and yet I knew we were us and always would be
………………………………………
When we loved, yes my dear oh! the freedom, the knowing he loved me too
and the skies pulsed and I spun and danced and laughed, tears falling
and your body writhed and my heart trembled
while my eyes told you, they just told you that I, too, love you!

It’s always a pleasure to write with Wayne, with his whimsical, flowing style and poetry that speaks volumes between the lines. I can only hope I did him justice. You can read him commiserating love at My House at the Sea or wrangling moose at Lola’s Travels in Alaska or even mulling over the finer points of life at Elephant Toothpicks.
