Queen of the Drowned

you don’t need
to kick the broken dog
when she’s already laying there
mangled in her own vomit
entrails bulging out
and staring glassy eyes

you don’t need to point out
that she’s ugly and worthless
and nobody will want her now
no

she already knows she can’t run
she knows you’ve moved on so soon
she already knows
she’s the queen of the drowned

her lungs filling
with her own putrid fluids
she watches with bloodshot eyes
as you carve and draw out the blade

your words cut deeper
than she ever thought was possible
eviscerated and tongue hanging out
she licks her chest but
the truth is
her heart has already bled out dry

*please remember, this work has nothing to do with or about or towards the blogger mentioned, simply that I used their blog name/title/tagline as a writing prompt.

This one is a little different in that I used two blogs. But both worked and I liked them and didn’t want to change my poem. So for this one, I am describing (minorly) each blog as neither of them follow me and will never see what I’ve written here, I’m sure, unless someone tells them lol.

Here’s #mygifttoyou (dear readers)

Taylor at Queen of the Drowned lives with chronic rare illness and is autistic. I love her blunt frankness she writes with while still full of so much life and heart.

Q at Carve and Draw creates gorgeous pointilism drawings while also sharing snippets of life. I wish I could do what she does. It’s truly delightful.
