spit, mixed with dirt – muddy words flow
If you walk an overgrown trail
not far from here
which weaves its way through the wood
you’ll chance upon
should you be looking
a familiar moss-covered boulder
though you never
perceived it there before
Yet it will draw you in
should your eyes chance upon it
you’ll find your feet
straying off the path
your eyes won’t look away
can’t
Your hand
of its own mind
will stretch forth to feel it
there’s magic in the air and
one touch will spark
from there to you
Soft green moss
damp
earthy
your fingers delve in
pushing deeper
’til you feel solid rock beneath
before long you’ll feel it: her
You’ll feel her heart beating
the gentle cadence of her breath
the cool warmth of her skin
her peace will engulf you
seep inside
cover over
heal
For long ago
it is said
she came to these woods
upon this very spot
to meet with her lover
while unknown to her
along the way
he was beset by wicked men
brought down
for the paper in his pocket
and she waits here still
even to this day
for her love to join her once more

Exquisite. One of a kind indeed. Loved it! 😍😍 The way you compared a girl to a boulder covered in moist damp moss. You write really well my dear.

Thank you so much, AC. Not sure I pulled off exactly what I was hoping for, but it is what it is. ☺️

I envisioned one thing but the writing had something else in mind once it got down on paper…

Brilliantly expressed, Tara! Love the vivid imagery of that wistful longing & can picture the scene perfectly. One of your best 😀

Whoa! Haunting! It felt like a magical fairy tail at the beginning and slowly morphed for me into an Andersen or Grimm fairy tail by the end. Gripping and poignant! Well done!

Thanks Nathan! It wasn’t at all what I had initially envisioned, but it wrote itself I suppose, and I let it.

Hello my friend. Working my way back to my site as it’s been some bit of time for me since I’ve written anything. Reading your words reminds me of how intimate the relationship is with the writers pen. Hope you are well.
