spit, mixed with dirt – muddy words flow
I called out to the moon late one night:
“Here, keep my heart for safe keeping;
It’s been hurt so many times and
I give it away far too easily.
Please protect it from those it is looking for”
She smiled kindly and reached down,
Surrounded my wounded heart with light
And with her beams of charity,
She carefully carried it far from me
It remained there hidden away until,
Some time later, I met a man, who,
For some reason unknown to me,
Seemed to desire my heart for his own
I told him who held my heart
And that it wasn’t meant for just anyone
Secretly, and while I slept,
He lassoed my moon, pulled her down
And stole my heart away
When next I saw his face,
I worried what he might do with it
Yet my worries were all misplaced
For there he tenderly held it
Cradled it to his chest, and as I watched,
Pulled out the key to his own heart,
Unlocked it and placed mine within his;
And there it gently rests to this very day

This is awesome! I’m not sure if you are into the fantasy genre, but this makes me think of The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. There is a ‘story within the story’ about a boy who fell in love with the moon and stole her from the sky. Great work, as always! 🙂

The visuals in my mind that accompanied your story were that of Le Petit Prince. Which I thought was quite interesting. Since it not a piece of literature I think of… eh… ever. 😀

That’s a literary piece I’ve never even heard of 🤷🏼♀️

I love the way you told this narrative. It is rhythmic and melodic. I loved the lasso the moon bit too 🙂 I’ve always been fond of that image 🙂 Very evocative and innocent
