Ice on the Beach

I am constantly fascinated by the changing landscape of winter.

Near the high tide line, the foam must have frozen on every surface. I’ve never seen this and wow what a sight.
A little closer to the water’s edge at low tide, and the foam turned to ice crystals. Not really any sand to speak of.
Pancake ice forming at the edge of the river.
Pancake ice in layers on the beach itself.
Probably not the sort of puddle you want to splash in.
A small island has formed at the mouth of the river, temporarily (I assume) diverting it until spring break-up. River in the foreground, ocean in the background.
Love those layers showing so well with the sun at just the right angle.

  1. Magical stuff, especially after a winter of nothing like this at all in a place that normally resembles that to one degree or another.

People who say winter is drab and dull aren’t looking hard enough.

    • I completely agree. I try to enjoy each season for what it is… but I must say I enjoy winter the most. Everywhere I look… it’s gorgeous.

  2. Having recently irretrievably lost a whole collection of my best nature photography, I’m delighted that you published these as they help fill the void in my heart! The photos are fascinating. Thank you for sharing them, Tara :-)

  3. Is it rational to have a phobia of falling into a slushy pond of ice? 🥶

Also I like the term pan-cake ice; thanks, i’ll use it 💛

  4. These remind me of a freeze we had, after a flood, and there were great bouts of ice in among the forest, the orchards and the field.

We saw the full eclipse today. I wasn’t prepared to be so dumbfounded. Now I get it. It’s almost like seeing the eye of God.
