Spit mixed with dirt – Muddy words flow
I realize it’s been a while since I’ve shared some photos from my small part of the world. It was a beautiful rainy day. Peaceful. Quite lovely. I spent a few hours at the beach (mostly) in my truck.
With the downpour, I was surprised a few shots actually turned out, though maybe a bit blurry and the lighting was odd… I quite liked the results.

Pretty crow. ;-)
Love the grass blade photo too, but they’re all good.
Hope your day treats you well.

Right! There’s a couple nests right by my house, and the young ones are learning to fly, so I get to see them all day. Plus, they wheel in the updrafts straight ahead of my property, so I sometimes get to watch that.

I especially love the picture of the crow. Could be a Japanese painting. I also want to make friends with the crowses,. I’m going to buy some peanuts and scatter them behind me when they’re watching. I’ve read that they really have a thing for peanuts, and all you have to do is to get them to associate you with treats—and their—totally—unconditional love for you will blossom.

Yes, so I buy a mix of nuts and seeds that I share with the crows when I go to the beach. They eat all the peanuts first, then they go for the other stuff later. I have pictures of their beaks all lined up with a bunch of peanuts out of shell. Super cute.
I want them because they will warn of predators and will chase off aerial predators, especially owls and hawks. The bald eagles, while I have a lot around here, don’t prey on my bunnies because they have easier pickings at the beach with all the fish carcasses and at the dump with all the garbage.
But crows are loyal and intelligent. I really want some to come live up by me… alas, it’s a smaller flock and they get plenty of muffins and chicken strips from other people, they have no reason to leave the general area. 😞

I always feel that crows don’t get the respect they deserve so I’m glad you got a really good picture of one and that you also appreciate them.

I agree. They’re way cool. By the way… I never comment on your blog because it won’t let me. I may have told you that years ago. Every time I try, it puts up an error message, says I’m not allowed to leave a comment… but your blog is one of my favorites! I always enjoy your personal stories and perspectives. Thanks for that!

Thank you!
And I’m sorry about the technical difficulties. I’ll see if I can find a way to fix that.

You’re very welcome, Tara. Me too, though it’s a rare occurrence where I live unless we’re lucky enough to have a decent monsoon season. Enjoy!

What makes the crows so special that you invite them over? I’m not their biggest fan.

They will chase off the predators like hawks and owls. I have wild rabbits and arctic hares that I love to watch, so having the crows would benefit us. Plus they’re just fun to watch.
I will say, in my experience, wild(er) crows like these are way cooler than city crows. City crows can really become a nuisance, but these ones aren’t so inbred and really intelligent and interesting to watch their antics and internal behavior.
