spit, mixed with dirt – muddy words flow
Well, it’s definitely that time of year here in my part of Alaska: berry picking. And boy has it been a great year for berries. I had to put the brakes on my nearly daily forays into the woods/muskeg due to the fact that there’s a shortage of canning jars locally. Happens nearly every year… and I thought I was prepared but it’s been such a great year that I ran out and finally was able to find a business that had some tucked away, still in stock. So, it’s back out for more berries again.
This year (so far) I’ve been able to harvest wild strawberries (much much much better than those flavorless ones you find at the grocery store), lingonberries (just getting started on these – also known as low-bush cranberries), low-bush blueberries, watermelon berries, and some currants, though they aren’t quite ready yet. Oh, and some rhubarb because I do love my rhubarb jam.
Anyway, hope you enjoy a couple quick pics from recent days.

Well, I love the desert too… send me some pics! I’d love it. But yes… I am blessed. I choose to live here, for a reason! 🥰

I marveled at the details of the first photo, but then realized that the others are also brilliant (such vibrant colors!).
Lingonberries I love, too! (Never heard of watermelon berries.)
And the last photo made me chuckle.

Love the photos and identification of the berries-and the bit of humor in the end.

These are so great I used to go for Wild Raspberries they were tiny but had more flavor than 15 you got from the store. Same with Blackberries. Great pictures.

It’s truly a gift, being able to forage for my food. Thank you.

Indeed. I envy you! I’ve picked blueberries in Maine, and strawberries locally, and I eat cranberries as a condiment with almost everything. I’m with you in spirit! 🙂

From a suburban/city kid, this seems so magical. I need more nature. Less bears, though.

Less bears for me too! I grew up out in the sticks and it’s magical for me too!

That’s so awesome. I use to work at a food coop that had wild black berries and strawberries etc. on their farm so good 😊

Thank you. I have way too many photos of lingonberries because they are yummy, are pretty, and their flowers are so pretty as well.
